title: check out my journal
description: "no, not literally :p i want to share with you why journalling means so much to me, from why i write in a journal, the pens i use, and the journal itself"
---
as i've progressed through my mental health journey. i've found journalling to be an incredible tool. while i love blogging and my websites. there are thoughts i need to take time to reflect on and process that are just for me. feelings and thoughts that don't necessarily need to be cast out into the void of the web, but that i need to sit down and spend time with. i use journalling for positive things too. i write down when i've had a good day. it is important to remember our good days when we don't have many of them, it can help us remember they are not forever gone
i enjoy using a lot of color in my journal. so i've purchased a few different color pens. much like my website is a place of expression, i want my journal, and really all aspects of my life to be as well. picking a certain color can help me write sometimes
journalling has gotten me interested in stationary in general. i don't know a lot about it at the moment, but i would like to explore other types of journalling such as bullet journalling for keeping tack of tasks i need to perform. it is supposedly very helpful for folks with ADHD, which i have. so i'm curious to give it a shot
i've also been interested in different types of pens. i've gotten to appreciate a good pen once or twice in my life. you just know when you've got a good one and you hold onto it for dear life if it is your's to keep. so i'd like to explore pens more. i think the first type i'd really like to check out is a fountain pen. i have never written with one before and am curious what it is like
i want to share with you some pictures, mostly of my journal and pens. my journal's design has a lot of meaning to me as to why i picked it out and you might like the pens i have too!
### journal gallery
![an image of my personal journal. it is decorated with illustrations of an artist in the creative process of creating art](../../../../images/journalling/journal.webp)
i chose this journal because i found the cover inspiring. it shows the creative process of making art. i found this important to what my goal with journalling was. that through writing about my thoughts and experiences, i was creating something better for myself. that this would be a process much like creating art. that it would take time and dedication, but the final result would be very worth it
![a group of four pens, all in different colors. they are sitting on a grey cloth](../../../../images/journalling/pens.webp)
i found these pens by accident at my local pharmacy. they were just what i was looking for as i only had a black pen at the time. i find i typically just pick a color when i want to write, and that each color isn't tied to a particular type of entry i want to make. they are very pleasing colors of blue, green, pink, and yellow. almost pastel like on the page but still very readable, even with my poor eyesight. they also came with a black pen but i rarely use it

title: a list of positive traits
description: "this list of positive traits was shared with me by my therapist. i find them to be useful writing prompts for my journal entries sometimes. it can be nice to just give ourselves a pat on the back sometimes. we all could genuinely use more of those <3"
---
these are a list of positive traits my therapist provided me with. sometimes i look over them and just pick one. i'll then take a moment to think about why i am that trait. this is an exercise in self love and appreciating that although you may feel like shit, you are a wonderful person. other people see that, the tricky part is getting you to see that again. i have also used a word as a writing prompt im my journal. i pick a word and write a bit about why i am that trait. this is helpful on days where i am not doing well because i can revisit these entries and see that i was kind enough to write myself something so nice
don't think of these as bragging about yourself, or boosting your ego. this is about loving yourself, getting yourself to see that you are a good person, that you are loved. these things are very hard to understand when one is suffering from depression, something i have not completely left behind yet. but i want to pass these on to you, whoever you may be. maybe you understand as much as i do how hard it is to love yourself with the state your in. so i'll ask you to read through this list and pick one word, and just think honestly about why you are that word. it is tough to do at first, but i guarantee there are words on this list that you are, even if you don't see it right now. take your time with it, you've got this <3
